Specious (pg. 12)- This word stands out because people don't use it everyday. It stood out to me when I first read it. This word means “Based on pretense or deceptively pleasing.”
Prominent (pg. 10)- It means “Having a quality that thrusts itself into action.”
Intricacies (pg.17)- It means “ Complex, beautiful, complicated and sometimes hard to understand.”
Mulberry (pg. 35) - In the book this word described a birthmark on a boy. The definition of the word is a dark red or purple color.
Exasperation (p.38) - This word was used to describe Ralph’s feelings towards another boy in the group. It means irritation or annoyance.
Avidly (pg. 49)- This word means to show great interest in or enthusiasm for. This word was used when Jack was hunting out in the forest.
Gesticulated (pg.50)- This means to use gestures. Each time this word was used in the book someone was talking. In the book the author uses this word to show how the characters talk to eachother.
Opalescence (pg. 81)- This word means something that has a shine like an opal. It is a very good word to describe morning light.
Impalpable (pg. 85)- This word means incapable of being able to touch the object, idea, thought, etc.
Perpetually (pg. 108)- This means that the thing is everlasting it means that it could go on forever.
Apex (pg. 109)- This word means the top or highest point of something. In the book it was used to describe the triangle that the boys meet in.
Festoon (pg. 136)- This means a chain or long string of objects. I chose this word because it was used in the scene with the pilot.
Incredulity (pg. 147)- This means unable to believe something. Something that is unbelievable.
Floundering (pg. 113)- To struggle or stumble as you move.
Luxuriance (pg. 116)- This means to be lush, abundant, anything that is a pleasure to the senses. It has a very unique sound that stands out to people.
Solemnly (pg.223)- This word means to be grave or sober. Another meaning for it is sad or serious.
